Jean Guido Sigriste
Paris, France
ca. 1899

Ex-collection AntiQ-Photo

This mint-condition leather-covered wooden box camera was manufactured by Jean Guido Sigriste in Paris ca. 1899. It is very well-known for its unique appearance. Because of its unusual tapered design, it was often referred to as a “jumelle”. It first appeared in 1899 and was referred to as a technical masterpiece, featuring a focal plane shutter with one hundred possible speed combinations. It’s a rigid-bodied camera for 18 exposures, 6.5 x 9 cm, on dry plates. The lens is a Berthiot Stellar No. 4. F/4. The black leather carrying case adds significantly to its value. This Sigriste is as fine as any camera I own and worthy of any museum collection.
