Pocket Cyko No. 1

John J. Griffin & Sons Ltd
London, England
ca. 1900

Ex-collection Michael Kramer

What a delightful camera! Around 1900 several photographic manufacturers made strut-like cameras that were very popular due to their small size when folded. Made of aluminum, with a leather bellows, Griffin’s Pocket Cyko was among the smallest and lightest of these. The No. 1 had side struts and a flat plate connecting the camera to the lens area. It held two dark slides containing 6.5 x 9 cm plates. In England it was sold by Griffin & Sons as the Pocket Cyko, and in Europe it was marketed as the Lopa by Niell & Simons. Very unusual design.
