Passe Partout

Eugene Hanau
Paris, France
Ca. 1889

Ex-collection Michael Kramer

This quite rare wooden detective camera is the Unique Passe Partout. In English it roughly means “Go Everywhere”. It has a conical brass front and uses a double 6 x 13 cm plate holder for two exposures per side, making a 6 cm round exposure at each position. It was demonstrated to the Societe Francaise de Photographie on December 6, 1889. It’s a fascinating French camera that is rarely seen!
