No.1 Kodak

Eastman Kodak Company
Rochester, NY
1889

Talk about historic! In 1888 George Eastman produced his historic first roll film camera, the Kodak. A year later Eastman created the Kodak No. 1 string-set camera. The No. 1 had a very good sector shutter versus the Kodak’s barrel shutter. The original Kodak and the No. 1 could take 100 round photographs with a diameter of 2 1/2”. The camera came loaded with film for 100 photos, and after taking the pictures, the user sent the camera containing the roll film back to Kodak for developing the pictures. Kodak then returned the pictures with the camera re-loaded with fresh film. These first Kodak cameras were designed by Eastman in collaboration with cabinetmaker, Frank Brownell.

This Kodak No. 1 has its original string for setting the shutter, its winding key, and lens cap.
