The Special Patent Stereo Camera

J. Lancaster & Son

Birmingham, England
Ca. 1888
Ex-collection Thom Bundza

The Special (Patented) Camera was manufactured by J. Lancaster & Son from approximately 1888 to 1894. It was a high quality, portable, brass-bound, half-plate camera constructed of mahogany with wine-red leather bellows.

This lovely camera is a rare stereo version of “The Special Patent” and features Lancaster’s brass half-plate lenses.  The monocular lens is Lancaster’s Patent Rectigraph.  The internal stereo septum is intact.
