The Kodak Camera, original model. Size 6 1/2 x 3 3/4 x 3 1/4 in. Made by Frank Brownell for the Eastman Dry Plate & Film Co. This was the first commercially successful camera to use rollfilm. Version without āVā sighting lines.
Provenance
Previously owned by Beaumont Newhall, first Director of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art and author of World History of Photography 1839-1937. A letter of provenance from Jaromir "Jerry" Stephany, University of Maryland, attests to the provenance of the camera, and how he acquired it directly from Newhall. Subsequently owned by Dr. Robert Lisle.
